She comes to Endsight with 14 years of living, working, and traveling experience in the region and four years of academic research. Originally from Somalia, she received her MA in International Studies from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver with an emphasis on the intersection between Development and Security in East Africa. She is a native speaker in English and Somali and conversational Arabic.
Prior to Endsight, Manal was a business processing professional at CSC where she served as a private and public sector liaison supporting business processes and producing weekly status update reports. She also worked at the US Embassy in Djibouti on political/public diplomacy and a researcher for the National Defense University.
Manal is an avid fan of both college football and BBC’s Hard Talk with Stephen Sackur. You can find her on Sunday morning recovering from an Ohio State victory and catching up on previous episodes of BBC's Hard Talk with a Costco-sized bowl of cereal in hand. Besides watching world leaders squirm on the hot seat, Manal enjoys traveling, reading, laughing, and eating at unknown places throughout DC. Her favorites dishes include fried plantains, burritos, cereal, and anything mom makes.
